Peerless Small Batch Bourbon is one of the quiet stars of the Camp West back bar, the kind of careful, small-production whiskey we love to introduce to West Seattle guests. Made by Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. in downtown Louisville, this bourbon comes from a distillery that batches in very small lots and refuses to cut corners. For a cabin bar that values craftsmanship over volume, Peerless Small Batch is a natural addition to the shelf.
About the Distillery
Kentucky Peerless began in 1889 with Henry Kraver’s distillery in Henderson, Kentucky. In 2015 the brand was revived by fourth-generation descendant Corky Taylor and his son Carson, who reclaimed the original federal permit number DSP-KY-50 and built a grain-to-bottle distillery in Louisville’s Bourbon District. Every drop is distilled in house and never sourced from elsewhere.
Style & Mash Bill
This is a Kentucky straight small-batch bourbon. Peerless ferments using a fresh sweet mash for each batch rather than the more common sour mash, enters the barrel at a low proof, and batches in small lots for consistency and character. Like the rest of the Peerless lineup, it is made without shortcuts, honoring the distillery’s grain-to-bottle philosophy.
Tasting Notes
Peerless bourbon leads with caramel and vanilla over toasted oak, followed by baking spice and a creamy, well-rounded texture. The small-batch approach yields a balanced, polished pour with the rich sweetness Peerless is known for and a satisfying, lingering finish. It is approachable yet clearly the product of real craft.
How to Enjoy It at Camp West
A pour of Peerless Small Batch Bourbon is $24. We suggest enjoying it neat to appreciate the balance, or over a single large rock for a slower, cooler sip. It is a sipping bourbon first and foremost. Tell your bartender how you take your whiskey and we will pour it your way.
FAQ
What makes it “small batch”? Peerless blends from a small number of barrels at a time, which favors consistency and character over large-scale production.
Is Peerless sweet mash or sour mash? Peerless uses a sweet mash, fermenting each batch with fresh yeast rather than relying on backset from a prior distillation.
