Hendrick’s Gin is the quirky, unmistakable Scottish gin with cucumber and rose at its heart — and a guest favorite on the shelf at Camp West in West Seattle. Launched in 1999, Hendrick’s helped spark the modern gin revival by daring to be different, and it remains one of the most distinctive bottles we pour. If you want a gin that surprises and delights, with a cool, floral elegance unlike anything else, this is the one to ask for.
About the Distillery
Hendrick’s is produced by William Grant & Sons at the Girvan distillery in Scotland, where it is made by master distiller Lesley Gracie. It is crafted using two rare stills — a Carter-Head still and a small Bennett pot still — whose spirits are blended together. After distillation, signature cucumber and rose essences are added, giving Hendrick’s its famously cool, floral character.
Botanicals & Style
Hendrick’s is a contemporary gin built on eleven botanicals, including juniper, coriander, angelica root, orris root, lemon and orange peel, caraway, chamomile, cubeb berries, and elderflower-adjacent florals — but its signatures are Bulgarian Damask rose and cucumber. The Carter-Head still bathes botanicals in vapor for delicacy while the pot still adds backbone, and the cucumber-and-rose infusion makes it unmistakably soft, floral, and refreshing rather than juniper-heavy.
Tasting Notes
Expect a cool, fragrant nose of cucumber and rose over gentle juniper, a smooth and rounded body, and a palate that balances crisp cucumber freshness with delicate floral sweetness and soft citrus. The finish is clean, cooling, and elegant.
How to Enjoy It at Camp West
Hendrick’s is famous in a gin and tonic garnished with cucumber rather than lime — it is the classic serve for a reason. It also makes a soft, floral martini and a lovely spritz. Ask your bartender for the cucumber garnish. Hendrick’s pours at $12.
