Eagle Rare

A full decade in the barrel is a rare thing at this price, and that is exactly what makes this bottle a quiet favorite. Eagle Rare is a 10-year Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace, prized for its depth and balance. We keep it on the shelf at Camp West in West Seattle for the guest who wants real age and complexity at our cabin-inspired bar in the Junction.

About the Distillery

Eagle Rare is produced at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, one of the most awarded distilleries in the world and among the oldest continuously operating ones in America. Buffalo Trace ages its whiskey in historic warehouses along the Kentucky River, and Eagle Rare has built a devoted following for delivering serious maturity in every bottle.

Style & Mash Bill

This is a Kentucky straight bourbon aged a full 10 years and bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV). It is built on Buffalo Trace’s low-rye Mash Bill #1, a corn-forward recipe with roughly 10% or less rye. The decade of aging lets the oak and barrel character integrate into a remarkably smooth, layered spirit.

Tasting Notes

The nose is complex, with toffee, orange peel, herbs, honey, leather, and oak. The palate is bold yet delicate, offering candied almonds and rich cocoa, leading into a long, dry, satisfying finish that shows off its years in the barrel.

How to Enjoy It at Camp West

At $12 a pour, Eagle Rare is best enjoyed neat so the ten years of aging can speak for themselves. A single large rock will gently open it up if you prefer. We would gently steer you away from burying this one in a cocktail, it is too good for that.

FAQ

How old is Eagle Rare? The standard expression carries a 10-year age statement, a notable amount of aging at its price point.

What does the mash bill taste like? The low-rye, corn-forward recipe gives it a soft, sweet, oak-driven character rather than a spicy rye bite.
