Few bottles carry as much history per ounce as Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel, and we’re proud to keep this allocated, sought-after bourbon on the shelf at Camp West, our cabin-inspired cocktail bar and restaurant in the West Seattle Junction. Named for one of the founding fathers of the bottled-in-bond movement, it’s a pour with real pedigree, and a genuine find for the West Seattle whiskey faithful.
About the Distillery
This bourbon comes from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, and honors Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr., an early owner of the distillery and a driving force behind the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. Each barrel is hand-selected from the historic Warehouse C, which Taylor himself had built in 1885 and which is prized for its excellent aging conditions.
Style & Mash Bill
This is a single barrel Kentucky straight bourbon, Bottled-in-Bond at 100 proof (50% ABV). The bonded designation means it’s the product of one distillery and one distilling season, aged at least four years in a federally supervised warehouse, a mark of authenticity and consistency. It’s made on Buffalo Trace’s Mash Bill #1, a low-rye recipe that favors a rounded, sweeter profile. As a single barrel, each bottle reflects one individual cask.
Tasting Notes
The nose carries lightly toasted oak, dried figs, and butterscotch. The palate is sweet and rich, balancing caramel and vanilla against tobacco, dark spice, and dried fruit. At 100 proof it has real presence without being aggressive, and the finish is long with toasted oak and warm spice.
How to Enjoy It at Camp West
This is a sipping bourbon through and through. We recommend it neat in a Glencairn to take in the layered aromatics, or over a single large rock if you’d like to soften the proof. A pour runs $20 and is best enjoyed slowly. Given how allocated it is, it’s a treat to have available, so savor it.
FAQ
What does Bottled-in-Bond mean? It’s a legal standard requiring the whiskey to be from one distillery and one season, aged at least four years, and bottled at exactly 100 proof. It’s a guarantee of authenticity.
Why is it hard to find? Colonel E.H. Taylor releases are highly allocated and in strong demand, so availability is limited, which is why we’re glad to keep it stocked.
