Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch

Pour yourself a piece of bourbon history. Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch is a Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace, named for one of the founding fathers of the modern American whiskey industry. We keep it on the shelf here in West Seattle because it delivers genuine pedigree without pretense, a bottle that rewards a slow night by the fire at our cabin-inspired bar in the Junction.

About the Distillery

Buffalo Trace Distillery sits along the Kentucky River in Frankfort and is one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in America. Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. was a 19th-century bourbon pioneer who championed quality and helped push for the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, a federal guarantee of authenticity. The brick warehouses he built still play a role in maturing whiskey today.

Style & Mash Bill

This is a small-batch, Bottled-in-Bond bourbon, which means it was distilled in a single season by one distiller, aged at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof (50% ABV). It is built on Buffalo Trace’s low-rye Mash Bill #1, a corn-forward recipe with less than 10% rye.

Tasting Notes

Expect caramel corn and butterscotch on the nose, opening into a balanced palate of dried fruit and soft licorice. The mouthfeel is gentle for a bonded bourbon, with subtle pepper and tobacco spice carrying through a clean, lingering finish.

How to Enjoy It at Camp West

At $17 a pour, this is a bourbon worth savoring neat to appreciate the full bonded structure, or over a single large rock if you prefer to open it up. It also stands up beautifully in a classic Old Fashioned. Ask your bartender which way they prefer it.
