Grand Marnier

Grand Marnier is the elegant French orange liqueur that elevates everything it touches, and it has a permanent home on the back bar at Camp West, our cabin-inspired cocktail bar and restaurant in the West Seattle Junction. Unlike most triple secs, Grand Marnier is built on a base of fine cognac blended with distilled bitter orange, which gives it a richness and depth all its own. We reach for it to lift our margaritas, Sidecars, and other cocktails, and it is just as rewarding sipped slowly on its own in West Seattle.

About the Producer

Grand Marnier was created in 1880 by Louis-Alexandre Marnier Lapostolle, who combined French cognac with the essence of tropical bitter orange. The Lapostolle family’s distilling history stretches back to 1827, and the flagship Cordon Rouge expression has been a benchmark orange liqueur ever since. The brand is now part of the Campari Group.

Style & Flavor

Grand Marnier is a cognac-based orange liqueur bottled at 40% ABV. Its style sits between a sweet liqueur and a fine brandy: the cognac base brings warmth and structure, while the bitter orange keeps it bright and aromatic. It is richer and more complex than a standard orange liqueur.

Tasting Notes

Expect aromas of candied orange peel and warm oak. The palate offers bittersweet orange, hazelnut, toffee, and vanilla, layered over the smooth, nutty character of cognac. The finish is long and gently warming.

How to Enjoy It at Camp West

A pour of Grand Marnier is $12 at Camp West. Sip it neat or on the rocks as a refined after-dinner treat, or let it shine in cocktails: it is superb in a top-shelf margarita, a classic Sidecar, or floated over a cocktail as a fragrant finishing touch. Just ask our bartenders.

FAQ

What makes Grand Marnier different from triple sec? Grand Marnier is made with a cognac base blended with bitter orange, giving it more depth and warmth than a typical triple sec, which is usually a neutral-based orange liqueur.

Can I drink Grand Marnier on its own? Absolutely. It is excellent neat or over ice as a digestif, in addition to its starring role in cocktails.
