Weller Single Barrel

W.L. Weller Single Barrel is one of the most sought-after wheated bourbons we keep at Camp West, our cabin-inspired cocktail bar and restaurant in the West Seattle Junction. Produced by Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, this is an allocated, hard-to-find expression that bourbon drinkers actively hunt for, and it sits at the top end of our deep whiskey list right alongside the rest of our Weller lineup. When a guest wants something special, this is the bottle we point to.

About the Distillery

Buffalo Trace is one of the most decorated distilleries in American whiskey, and its Weller line traces back to the legacy of William Larue Weller, a pioneer of wheated bourbon. Weller shares the same celebrated wheated mash bill that Buffalo Trace uses for its most coveted bottles, which is a large part of why these releases get snapped up so quickly. Single Barrel is the most limited, vintage-dated member of the standard Weller family.

Style & Mash Bill

This is a single barrel, wheated bourbon bottled at 97 proof. Like all of Buffalo Trace’s wheaters, it swaps the traditional rye in the mash bill for wheat, which is what gives Weller its signature softness and rounded sweetness. Because every bottle comes from one barrel, there is a little extra individuality from pour to pour.

Tasting Notes

Buffalo Trace lists cherry and mint on the nose fading into vanilla, a palate of caramel and baking spice with hints of cocoa, and a finish of cinnamon, coffee, and a touch of pepper. In the glass it drinks rich and rounded, with that classic wheated softness carrying through.

How to Enjoy It at Camp West

We pour Weller Single Barrel at $15. Given how allocated and well-built it is, we recommend it neat so its full character comes through, or over a single large rock if you like a slower, cooler sip. This is not a bottle we would steer you toward a mixed drink, it is too good to bury.

FAQ

What makes Weller a wheated bourbon?
Its mash bill uses wheat instead of rye as the secondary grain, which produces a softer, sweeter, rounder profile.

Why is Weller Single Barrel so hard to find?
It is an allocated, limited release from Buffalo Trace, so demand consistently outpaces supply.
