WhistlePig PiggyBack 6 Year Rye

The WhistlePig PiggyBack 6 Year Rye was practically built for a bar like Camp West in West Seattle. WhistlePig made it for bartenders, with a spicy, high-proof, 100% rye profile designed to stand tall in a cocktail without disappearing under the citrus and sugar. It is the workhorse rye on our shelf, equally good as a confident sip or as the backbone of a classic. When a drink needs real rye spine, this is the bottle we reach for.

About the Distillery

WhistlePig is the Vermont farm distillery that turned aged rye into a craft obsession. The PiggyBack line is their value-minded family, and the rye in particular is the brand’s love letter to the cocktail world. WhistlePig went so far as to design the bottle to be easier for a busy bartender to grip and pour. It is a serious whiskey aimed squarely at the people building drinks night after night.

Style & Mash Bill

This is a 100% rye whiskey aged six years and bottled at 100 proof. The all-rye mash bill makes it assertive and spicy, and the 100-proof strength is calibrated, in WhistlePig’s words, to hit the sweet spot in the strength-sweet-bitter balance of a cocktail. In other words, it is strong enough to push through the other ingredients but not so hot it overwhelms them.

Tasting Notes

The nose brings fresh cinnamon, black peppercorn, and a hint of tangerine and grapefruit zest over earthy tobacco and leather. The palate is powerfully spicy, with cocoa, cardamom, cured leather, vanilla, lemongrass, and spiced milk chocolate. The finish is long, full of baking spice, vanilla, and citrus. It is a bold, expressive rye that announces itself.

How to Enjoy It at Camp West

This is our go-to cocktail rye, so let our bartenders put it to work in a Manhattan, an Old Fashioned, or a Sazerac, where its spice carries beautifully. That said, it is plenty enjoyable neat or over a single rock if you want to taste it on its own terms. PiggyBack Rye pours for $13.

FAQ

Why is it considered a cocktail rye? Its 100% rye mash bill and 100 proof are built to stand up to citrus, sugar, and bitters, so it keeps its character in a mixed drink.

Can I drink it neat? Absolutely. It is bold and spicy on its own and holds up well as a straight sip.
