Corvidae Rook Merlot

The Corvidae Rook Merlot is a plush, approachable Washington Merlot that earns its spot on our West Seattle wine list. It comes from Corvidae Wine Co., the value-focused sister label of the well-regarded Owen Roe winery, and it offers the kind of smooth, generous drinking that makes Merlot such a comfortable pour at Camp West.

About the Winery

Corvidae Wine Co. is the value-driven second label of Owen Roe, a winery known for serious Pacific Northwest reds. The Corvidae range is named for the crow family of birds — rooks, ravens, and crows — that are a familiar sight in the region’s vineyards, and the “Rook” bottling carries that name. The idea behind Corvidae is to bring Owen Roe’s craft and vineyard access to bottles you can open any night of the week.

Region & Grape

This is a Washington Merlot from the Columbia Valley, drawing on higher-elevation fruit including Owen Roe’s vineyard sites. Merlot thrives in Washington — the warm days build ripe, supple fruit while cool nights preserve freshness, yielding a Merlot that’s softer and rounder than Cabernet but with real depth. Higher-elevation sites add lift and structure to the wine’s plush core.

Tasting Notes

Expect a smooth, approachable Merlot with ripe flavors of plum, black cherry, and dark berry fruit. The palate is round and velvety, with the soft, supple tannins Merlot is loved for and a gentle savory-herbal edge. It’s an easygoing, fruit-forward red that drinks well on its own and even better with food.

What to Pair It With

Merlot’s soft tannins and ripe fruit make it a versatile partner. Try it with our Mushroom Cassoulet, the Italian Herb Chicken Fillets, or the Jumbo Portobello & Ricotta Ravioli — the wine’s plush texture loves earthy, savory dishes. See more on our dine-in menu.
