Four Roses Single Barrel earns its place on the back bar at Camp West, our cabin-inspired cocktail bar in West Seattle. Drawn from a single barrel rather than blended, this is bourbon at its most expressive: one cask, one character, bottled at a sturdy 100 proof. It is the kind of pour we reach for when someone wants to slow down and really taste what Kentucky high-rye bourbon can do.
About the Distillery
Four Roses has been making bourbon in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky for well over a century, and the brand’s modern reputation rests on an unusual approach: ten distinct recipes built from two mash bills and five proprietary yeast strains. The Single Barrel showcases just one of those recipes on its own, with no blending to round it off, so what reaches your glass is the honest fingerprint of a single barrel chosen for quality.
Style & Mash Bill
The standard Single Barrel is the OBSV recipe, a high-rye Kentucky straight bourbon. The mash bill runs 60% corn, 35% rye, and 5% malted barley, paired with the “V” yeast strain known for delicate fruit. Bottled at 100 proof and typically aged in the seven-to-nine-year range, it carries real backbone without losing its fruit-forward charm.
Tasting Notes
Expect a spicy, full-bodied character driven by that generous rye content. Delicate fruit notes of apricot, pear, and plum sit alongside the classic caramel and vanilla, while cocoa, cinnamon, and nutmeg round out a long, warming finish. There is plenty going on here, which is exactly why it rewards a little patience.
How to Enjoy It at Camp West
At 100 proof, Four Roses Single Barrel is best enjoyed neat or over a single large rock to let the fruit and spice open up. It also makes a confident Old Fashioned if you like your cocktail with extra grip. Our pour is $14. Ask your bartender and we will talk you through it.
