Copperworks Single Malt

Sometimes the best whiskey on the shelf is made just up the road. Copperworks Single Malt is an American single malt distilled in Seattle, and we are proud to pour this hometown spirit at Camp West in West Seattle. It captures the Pacific Northwest’s craft-malt movement in a glass, which makes it a natural fit for a cabin-inspired bar that loves to champion the local.

About the Distillery

Copperworks Distilling Co. was founded in Seattle and runs its flagship distillery and tasting room on Alaskan Way along the downtown waterfront, with a second tasting room in Kenmore. The American Distilling Institute named Copperworks its 2018 Distillery of the Year. The team approaches whiskey like brewers, starting with high-quality brewer’s malt and Washington-grown barley.

Style & Mash Bill

This is an American single malt, meaning it is made from 100% malted barley and distilled at a single distillery, in the tradition of Scotch single malt but with a distinctly Northwest accent. Copperworks sources barley grown in Washington and matures its whiskey in new American oak, giving the spirit a fuller, bolder character than many of its Scottish cousins.

Tasting Notes

American single malts from Copperworks tend to show rich malt and toasted-grain character, with notes of dried fruit, honey, baking spice, and a warm oak backbone. The malt-forward base brings a cereal sweetness that distinguishes it clearly from corn-based bourbon.

How to Enjoy It at Camp West

At $18 a pour, we suggest trying this one neat first to appreciate the malt character that the distillery works so hard to develop. A few drops of water or a single rock will soften it nicely if you prefer. It is a thoughtful sipper rather than a mixer.
