El Jimador Reposado is an honest, everyday 100% agave tequila that punches well above its price, which is exactly why it has a place on the agave list at Camp West in West Seattle. Named for the jimadores who harvest the agave by hand, this reposado offers a brief rest in oak that rounds out the bright agave with soft vanilla and caramel. It is the kind of dependable, well-made tequila that works just as happily in a margarita as it does over a single rock.
About the Producer
El Jimador is made by Tequila Herradura at its distillery in Amatitán, Jalisco, a name with deep roots in tequila history. Herradura is owned by Brown-Forman, but production stays in Jalisco at the same historic facilities. Launched in 1994, El Jimador has grown into one of Mexico’s best-selling tequilas, a testament to its consistency and value.
Agave & Region
El Jimador is made from 100% blue Weber agave grown in Jalisco, the home of tequila. The agave is hand-harvested, naturally fermented, and double-distilled before the reposado spends time resting in American oak barrels. That oak rest is what separates a reposado from a blanco, softening the spirit and adding gentle color and warmth.
Tasting Notes
The nose shows cooked agave, vanilla, light caramel, and a whisper of oak. On the palate it is smooth and warm, with the natural sweetness of agave coming through clearly alongside those mellow barrel notes. It is approachable and clean, with a finish that stays friendly rather than sharp.
How to Enjoy It at Camp West
El Jimador Reposado is a great sipper over ice when you want something easy and agave-forward. It also makes an excellent margarita or Paloma, where its oak-kissed character adds depth without overpowering the citrus. A pour of El Jimador Reposado is $10.
FAQ
What does reposado mean? Reposado means “rested.” It refers to tequila aged in oak for at least two months but less than a year, which adds smoothness and subtle barrel flavor.
Is El Jimador 100% agave? Yes. El Jimador is made from 100% blue Weber agave, not a mixto, which is part of why it tastes so clean.
