Espolòn Blanco is a bartender favorite and a genuine value, which is exactly why it earns its keep on the agave list at Camp West in West Seattle. This 100% blue agave blanco from the Jalisco Highlands is bright, peppery, and clean, the kind of dependable tequila that makes a great margarita without ever cutting corners. Whether you are building cocktails all night or just want a no-fuss agave pour, Espolòn delivers character well above its price.
About the Producer
Espolòn is produced at the Casa San Nicolás distillery in the Highlands of Jalisco. The distillery was established in 1995 by master distiller Cirilo Oropeza, who had been distilling since the 1960s and remained at the helm for years; the brand was acquired by the Campari group in 2009. First produced in 1998, Espolòn has become one of the most recognizable agave brands in any good cocktail bar.
Agave & Region
Espolòn is made from 100% blue Weber agave grown in the Los Altos, or Highlands, region of Jalisco, where the distillery sits around 2,000 meters above sea level. The water is drawn from deep beneath the Highlands. High-altitude agave tends toward a fruitier, more vibrant profile, and the blanco is bottled unaged so that character comes through clearly.
Tasting Notes
Espolòn Blanco is crisp and lively, with bright cooked-agave sweetness, a clean herbal edge, and a signature touch of black and white pepper. There is a hint of tropical fruit and citrus, finishing clean and peppery. It is straightforward in the best way, exactly what a good blanco should be.
How to Enjoy It at Camp West
Espolòn Blanco is a cocktail staple here, the backbone of a crisp margarita or a refreshing Paloma. It also takes a chilled shot or a simple pour over ice nicely when you want something easy and agave-forward. A pour of Espolòn Blanco is $10.
