Four Roses Yellow Label is the friendly front door to the whole Four Roses range, and it has a permanent home at Camp West, our cabin-inspired cocktail bar in West Seattle. This is the brand’s flagship bourbon, the one that built the reputation, and it is an easy yes whether you are new to bourbon or just want a dependable, well-made pour without any fuss.
About the Distillery
Four Roses distills in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and is unusual for blending ten separate recipes from two mash bills and five yeast strains. The flagship, long known by its yellow label, leans on that full toolkit. The bottle design has shifted toward a softer beige in recent years, but most drinkers still call it Yellow Label, and so do we.
Style & Mash Bill
This is a Kentucky straight bourbon and the only Four Roses expression that blends all ten recipes together. Those recipes draw on both house mash bills: the higher-rye “B” at 60% corn, 35% rye, 5% malted barley, and the “E” at 75% corn, 20% rye, 5% malted barley. It is aged a minimum of five years and bottled at 80 proof, which keeps it light on its feet.
Tasting Notes
The nose leads with dried apricot, light peach, citrus blossom, and a touch of lavender, finishing with a hint of fresh oak. The palate is gentle and inviting: sweet corn, honey, vanilla, and just a little spice. It is clean, mellow, and very drinkable.
How to Enjoy It at Camp West
At 80 proof, Yellow Label is an excellent everyday sipper neat or on the rocks, and it shines in highballs and classic cocktails where you want bourbon character without heat. It is also our go-to recommendation for anyone easing into whiskey. Our pour is $10, one of the friendlier prices on the list.
