High West Rendezvous Rye is the distillery’s flagship, and it has earned a permanent spot on our shelf at Camp West in West Seattle. It is a blend of straight rye whiskeys built for big, uncompromising rye flavor, and it is the bottle that put High West on the map for a lot of whiskey drinkers. For a cabin bar with a serious rye following, Rendezvous is a cornerstone pour.
About the Distillery
High West was founded in 2006 by David and Jane Perkins in Park City, Utah, the first legal distillery in the state since Prohibition. The brand’s reputation was built on masterful blending, and Rendezvous Rye is the whiskey that best represents that legacy, combining sourced and in-house ryes into a single, robust expression.
Style & Mash Bill
Rendezvous is a blend of straight rye whiskeys aged roughly four to seven years and bottled at 92 proof. It draws on two high-rye mash bills: an MGP rye of about 95 percent rye with malted barley, and High West’s own rye of roughly 80 percent rye and 20 percent malted rye. Where many ryes use just barely over half rye in the grain bill, Rendezvous is built on very high rye content, which is the source of its bold, spice-driven character.
Tasting Notes
The nose offers orange peel, dried apricot, mint, clove, pine, and caramelized sugar. The palate is bold and spicy with ginger and cinnamon over sweeter notes of molasses, vanilla, macaroon, and toasted oak. The finish fades through lively rye spice into caramel, orange zest, and a wisp of tobacco.
How to Enjoy It at Camp West
Rendezvous is wonderful neat or over a rock, where its high-rye spice really sings. It also makes an outstanding Manhattan or Old Fashioned if you want a cocktail with backbone. Our pour is listed at $19.
