Planteray Dark Rum

Planteray Dark Rum is a rich, flavorful pour we are glad to keep on the shelf at Camp West in West Seattle. Made by the Planteray team (the rum house formerly known as Plantation), it is a dark blended Caribbean rum with the kind of brown-sugar depth that gives a cocktail real soul. For a cabin-inspired bar in the Junction that values well-made, versatile spirits, this is a go-to bottle for everything from tropical drinks to a simple rum and cola.

About the Distillery

Planteray is the rum label of Maison Ferrand, the historic French house guided by cellar master Alexandre Gabriel. Ferrand sources component rums from established Caribbean distilleries, then blends and finishes them with the same meticulous craft that built the brand’s reputation among bartenders. Formerly sold under the Plantation name, Planteray carries that legacy forward, with the original dark expression standing as one of its most mixable bottles.

Style & Region

This is a dark blended rum built on Caribbean distillates, drawing on islands such as Trinidad and Jamaica. The component rums are distilled from molasses and aged in their countries of origin, then blended for a deeper color and a fuller, rounder profile than a white rum. The result is a warm, characterful dark rum made with cocktails in mind.

Tasting Notes

Expect a welcoming nose of brown sugar, honey, ripe banana, and tropical fruit, with hints of vanilla and warm baking spice. The palate follows with molasses sweetness, dark fruit, and a touch of cocoa and clove, finishing clean with lingering vanilla. It has plenty of flavor to carry a drink.

How to Enjoy It at Camp West

Planteray Dark is a natural in a Rum Punch, a Dark and Stormy, or any tiki-style cocktail that benefits from molasses richness, and it makes an excellent rum and cola. Ask your bartender for a recommendation. Planteray Dark Rum is a $10 pour at Camp West.
