Westland American Oak Flagship

Westland American Oak is a hometown pour we are proud to keep at Camp West, our cabin-inspired cocktail bar and restaurant in the West Seattle Junction. Made just across town by Westland Distillery in Seattle, it is the flagship expression of their pioneering American single malt, a whiskey built from Washington-grown barley and matured in our cool, maritime climate. For a bar named after the woods, pouring a single malt that so clearly tastes of the Pacific Northwest feels exactly right, and it gives our guests a true sense of place in a glass.

About the Distillery

Westland Distillery, based in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood, helped put America on the global single malt map. American Oak is its signature flagship release, the culmination of more than a decade of pioneering a distinctly American style of single malt rooted in local grain and the region’s steady, cool humidity. It is one of the most recognizable names in American single malt, and it happens to be made right here at home.

Style & Mash Bill

This is an American single malt whiskey built from five roasted and kilned barley malts, anchored by pale malt grown in Washington State, with specialty malts (including Munich, Extra Special, Pale Chocolate, and Brown malt) layered in for depth. It is fermented with a Belgian brewer’s yeast and matured predominantly in new American oak, with a thoughtful supporting role from first-fill bourbon and oloroso sherry casks.

Tasting Notes

Westland describes a nose of custard, marionberry, maple, and toasted marshmallow, with a palate of almond nougat, creme brulee, black tea, and malted milk, finishing on a gentle lemon-pepper warmth. It is rich, dessert-leaning, and unmistakably crafted, the kind of malt that rewards your attention.

How to Enjoy It at Camp West

We pour Westland American Oak at $15. We recommend it neat to take in the full custard-and-berry character, or with a few drops of water, which coaxes out the vanilla and cocoa. A single large rock works too if you prefer it cool and slow. As a flagship single malt, it shines best on its own rather than in a mixed drink.
