El Tesoro Reposado

El Tesoro Reposado lands right in the sweet spot between the bright purity of a blanco and the rich depth of an añejo, which makes it one of the most versatile pours on the agave list at Camp West in West Seattle. Made the traditional way at the storied La Alteña distillery, it takes El Tesoro’s tahona-crushed Highland agave and rests it in oak just long enough to add warmth and roundness while keeping the agave front and center. It is a crowd-pleaser for sippers and cocktail lovers alike.

About the Producer

El Tesoro is produced at Destilería La Alteña in Arandas, Jalisco, founded by Don Felipe Camarena in 1937 and now overseen by his grandson, Master Tequilero Carlos Camarena. The family’s traditional approach defines every bottle: agave milled with a tahona stone, fermented with the fibers in wooden tanks, and made with a level of care that has earned La Alteña its legendary reputation.

Agave & Region

The agave is grown in the mineral-rich Highlands of Jalisco at roughly 7,000 feet, terroir known for producing rounder, fruitier, and more floral agave. After cooking and tahona milling, the reposado is aged in American oak ex-bourbon barrels. That oak rest, longer than a blanco but shorter than an añejo, is where the spirit picks up its signature balance.

Tasting Notes

The oak brings gentle notes of vanilla, caramel, and warm spice, layered over the bright cooked-agave and floral character that defines El Tesoro. It is smooth and rounded, with the barrel and the agave in genuine harmony, finishing long and mellow.

How to Enjoy It at Camp West

El Tesoro Reposado is delicious sipped neat or over a single large rock, where the oak and agave have room to open up. It also makes a beautifully balanced margarita or an Old Fashioned-style agave cocktail. A pour of El Tesoro Reposado is $15.

FAQ

How long is reposado aged? Reposado tequila is aged in oak for at least two months but less than a year, giving it light color and added smoothness while keeping plenty of agave character.

Should I sip it or mix it? Either. It is smooth enough to enjoy neat and characterful enough to lift a cocktail, which is what makes a reposado so versatile.
