The Woodward Canyon Estate Reserve Red Blend is a flagship Walla Walla wine and one of the most distinctive reds on the Camp West list here in West Seattle. Drawn from the winery’s finest Estate Vineyard lots, this 2021 blend is soft and refined, weaving herbal and graphite tones through Asian spices, black currant jelly, and coffee grounds, all framed by firm tannins. For guests who love a complex, structured Washington red with a real sense of place, this is the bottle to seek out.
About the Winery
Woodward Canyon was founded in 1981 by Rick and Darcey Small and was the second commercial winery in the Walla Walla Valley. Their Estate Vineyard, with its mature plantings and surrounding green belts of native juniper, ponderosa pine, and wildflowers, is the source of the winery’s most ambitious wines. The Estate Reserve is always built from these top lots, making it a true expression of the Smalls’ decades of work in the valley.
Region & Grape
This is a Walla Walla Valley red blend from the 2021 vintage, drawn from the Woodward Canyon Estate Vineyard. It is a Bordeaux-style blend built on Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and supporting amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Merlot; the proportions shift each vintage as the winemaking team chases balance. Estate fruit gives the wine its classic Walla Walla structure.
Tasting Notes
Soft and refined on the palate, the 2021 layers herbal and graphite tones over black currant jelly, Asian spices, and a note of coffee grounds. Firm tannins give it backbone and the kind of structure that suggests it will reward time in the cellar as well as the table.
What to Pair It With
This structured, savory blend calls for red meat. Pair it with our NY Strip Steak, the Delmonico Steak Bites, or the Steak Tip Fettuccine — the wine’s graphite and currant notes love a good char. See the full dine-in menu for more pairing ideas.
